UPDATE Thursday 3rd November
As most of you will know, the congregation at Martyrs’ Church of Scotland was merged with the Cathedral on Sunday 30th October 2011. Since we received the news about the closure, we’ve been working to try and secure continuing access to the Martyrs’ building or to find alternative locations for the various clubs and activities that have been running in Martyrs’ up until now.
So firstly, there’s good news on the Martyrs’ front – we’ve been given permission to continue using the building until the 31st January, which gives us a 3 month period to negotiate for a longer lease on the building. There has been quite a bit of progress made on securing the building for a longer period, but nothing is definite yet, so we can’t take it for granted that we’ll be able to use it beyond 31st January at the moment. We’ll post an update here as soon as we know more information.
There is a wee bit of bad news however – it’s taken us a bit longer than we had expected to get all the relevant insurance sorted out so that we can run all the clubs and activities. Up to now, it’s all been insured through the Church of Scotland, but we now have to organise all this ourselves, and it’s all taking longer than we’d hoped.
As a result, we won’t be able to run any of the groups for a week or so until we get everything sorted out. At the moment, we hope to get everything sorted out within the next week or so, but we’ll have a clearer idea of how long things will take to set up next week.
