Cycling is great fun, a cheap form of transport, a way of keeping fit, of exploring new places and a great way of finding your freedom and independence. In order to help as many young people as possible to experience the benefits of “getting on your bike”, SiMY has joined forces with the Bike Station, Glasgow to create the Townhead Bike Academy.
The Bike Academy will eventually offer a range of cycling activities in the Townhead area, including training to help local people organise their own biking activities. At the moment, we run a weekly group, with a range of activities, including bike handling skills, repair and maintenance, navigation and all the other skills that will help you to go and have fun on a bike. Our biking sessions run from our base at Pinkston Paddlesports.
Along with these weekly groups, we also organise regular group rides to various places around Glasgow and beyond. We try to make sure that everyone gets the chance to take part in a trip that suits the sort of cycling they’re interested in, whether that’s a gentle pedal along the canal path with regular stops for snacks and drinks, or trying to get ‘big air’ off the jumps at Carron Valley! We don’t mind what we do, as long as you enjoy yourself.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a bike, as we have a range of bikes in different sizes to suit most people. If you have a bike but it needs some repairs, bring it along and we’ll be happy to see if we can get you back on the road.
