Music
We support young people to take part in a range of musical activities, including hiring tutors for specific instruments, and lending out equipment to help with gigs. Music activities are very much driven by the young people involved, with many of the ideas for activities and development coming from them.
We are currently exploring various options for a new home for our ‘session room’, where young people can come and practice on a range of musical instruments, including electric, acoustic and bass guitar, drums and keyboards.Visual Arts
We run a range of activities designed to allow young people to express their creativity, from individual art and craft sessions during our evening clubs, through to larger projects which involve groups of young people over several weeks. Although many of these activities are run by our own team, we also actively encourage young people to get involved with other initiatives, often hosting other organisations to allow them to work with the young people who attend SiMY activities. Some of the artwork which has been created through these collaborations is now on display in the community.
Dance
SiMY runs a dance group on Thursday evenings, with coaches supplied by AplusM Training. In addition, we work with a number of other organisations including YDance and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to offer young people who are interested in dance a range of opportunities to develop their skills and take part in larger dance events across Scotland.
